The backpack: An essential item for those of us who need to walk/shop/do whatever we need to do whilst being hands free. The backpack was apparently invented in 1967 by Greg Lowe (little history lesson for you there) and has since evolved in to a wide range of styles with the majority of fashion brands having their own. From the super practical to the stylish ‘It’ bag, we’ve seen it all.
I admit I temporarily lost my love for the backpack in Year 7 when my bag was almost as big and as heavy as me and all I really wanted was a handbag… but luckily I have since rediscovered the practicality and the style that goes with it. Sophie Fleming Is a relatively new brand where each and every backpack is handmade here in England. Made from the highest quality vegetable tanned leather with fittings imported specially from Italy.
In the word’s of the designer herself “I designed this backpack out of a personal need that could not be met from the High Street or Designers at the time; firstly when I became an avid cyclist as a university student, and then when I began commuting to London for my job at Jaeger’s Head Office just off Regent Street. Whilst casual rucksacks were available, I yearned for something that was more formal and structured, with a sense of style and sophistication. Hopefully I have achieved this!” and she absolutely has!
Launched in January 2014, Sophie Fleming backpacks have since been seen In the likes of GQ, Elle, Glamour, Cosmopolitan and more.
Taking you seamlessly from work and meetings to dinner and drinks, I don’t know where I would be without it. Even VOGUE agrees... Read here.
