When your due date comes and goes with no sign of baby, the days seem longer than ever. I have realised the key is to keep busy! Each day over I've made sure I've had something to do. Whether it's cleaning the house (again) going out for coffee... going to get the car washed... absolutely anything, but i've realised that I've needed to at least have a reason to leave the house!
I'm actually not going as mad as I thought I might do. In my head I always imagined having a promt arrival. I don't do late... so I guess I thought that baby would have got the memo. Apparently not! I'm only a few days over due now and did'n't realise how much I would actually trust my body and the baby. When it's time, the baby will know. It clearly hasn't done cooking just yet which is fine by me. It makes me think I must be doing a good job! The hardest bit, is knowing that baby COULD be here... and when you are just so desperate to finally meet them it can definitely make you feel impatient.
I'll just have to make the most of these quiet nights and peaceful mornings. Being able to shower when I want, having the time to put on my make up... because very very soon I know that is all going to change!
In the mean time... I need to find another way to use my time than online shopping. It's getting just a tad expensive!
Hopefully by the next blog post, I will be plus one!
It's THE week this week. I cannot believe how quickly it has actually come round, although at the same time I feel like I've been pregnant forever! The bump is now suitably huge... getting up off the sofa is the least elegant thing I can do and I could not feel more ready to finally meet this baby!
So many people say the last month of pregnancy is the hardest... but it has 100% been my favourite. Despite not being able to sleep, and my mind being completely consumed by what is about to happen... by 36 weeks I was just so excited to be on the home stretch.
The end has been so exciting. Finishing work is so lovely and having time to do as little or as much as you want to do is brilliant. I've had lots more time to meet up with the girls I met from our NCT course which has been so lovely. I'm now the last person in our group who is still pregnant!
Also in my final month I have had my baby shower! When this was planned I thought having it 10 days before due date was leaving it a little too close to the end, but it's actually worked out perfectly. It's made the last bit go so much quicker because I was focussed on that date in my diary for so long... and now I'm focussed on due date!
I'm so so excited to think in the next 2 and a half weeks I WILL meet my baby! Could be tomorrow.... but it could also be a good couple of weeks away. All the girls in my NCT group went overdue so I am fully expecting to. Hopefully I won't have to wait an extra 2 weeks... but I think I could cope with 1. Fingers crossed!
I'm doing all the things that supposedly bring on labour. Long walks, spicy curries, eating 6 dates a day, raspberry leaf tea, evening primrose oil, clary sage oil... the list goes on and oh the amount of googling I do about it! In the mean time I'll be here, bouncing on my birthing ball hoping to get things going. I cannot believe this is my last pregnancy update! Time to meet this tiny human.
Over and out!
This week I will turn 35 weeks pregnant! This means 5 weeks to go until due date and only 2 weeks until my baby is officially full term. Any baby born before 37 weeks is classed as premature, but any day after... your'e good to go! I cannot wait to reach that milestone. I'm sure once I reach 37 weeks I'll be tempted to try all those old wives tales of getting labour going... spicy curry, raspberry leaf tea, eating 6 dates a day. The list goes on! I'm so desperate to meet the baby already but I reckon it will be just my luck that baby wants to stay in there for a good 10 days over due!
This past month my hubby and I have been and completed our NCT course! It's actually been so interesting. We have both learnt loads and feel a lot more like we know what to expect when labour starts. I literally cannot wait for the day! We have met some really lovely people too which I think is quite a big reason why most people go to these courses. It's lovely to meet other first time Mum's and Dad's and to all be going through the same thing together is reassuring. I actually have the latest due date out of the 6 couples on the course, so some of the girls I've met will be meeting their babies in no time at all!
The nursery is now finished!! I literally could not be happier with it. I love it so much! If you didn't catch my nursery tour post then have a read here. It's very white but with some colour pops added as I didn't want it to be bland. I'm so happy with how it has all come out though. I often go and sit in there on the rocking chair just to admire it all. Crazy to think a little baby will actually be using it soon!
Since hitting the third trimester, tiredness has struck! It's hard work carrying around all this extra weight and easy tasks are now so much harder. Socks are SO hard to put on. Last night I just about managed to paint my toe nails but I'm not sure I'm going to be able to reach them again! Each day I wake up and look in the mirror and think.. blimey that bumps got bigger again! All a good sign I know! Baby growth is so rapid at this stage, it is putting on at least half a pound a week. Sleeping at night is really quite awkward, I feel like I wake up every hour. Something I might as well get use to I guess!
There really isn't anything I need now as have all the essentials, but that doesn't stop me looking. Here are just a couple of bits that I'm loving. Surprise, surprise it's knit wear! Actually, also on my wish list are some patterned muslins for swaddling. I've found them really hard to find... but on pinterest there are so many gorgeous pictures of babies wrapped up in them! Please let me know if you've spotted any. I LOVE this little cactus print one.
Over all, the last 5 weeks have been nothing to complain about. I'm SO excited to get the next 5 out the way and get to due date... even better if baby decides to come before that!
I'm so excited to be publishing this post! I could not be happier with how our baby's nursery has turned out. I'm totally in love with it!
I took so much inspo from Pinterest and have had this all planned since the first time I got pregnant so to finally see it all put together in my home feels amazing. As I walk past it on the way to my room it really does make me smile.
Not knowing what our little bundle of joy is going to be, we have had to go fairly neutral although I'm not sure I actually would have done it any differently if we did know. Maybe just a couple more pink or blue accessories but I really like how fresh this looks with the odd colour splash!
I always knew I wanted some sort of colourful pom pom garland in the baby's room. I wasn't sure how I was going to do this, but am so happy with the way it's turned out where I've hung it almost as a bed head. It adds the perfect amount of colour to the room which I really didn't want to be too white! I found this garland on Etsy (all links below)
These prints were also an Etsy job. Initally found via Pinterest, I knew I wanted some little baby animals for the wall art. Again, rather than going for two grey animals which was very tempting... I went for this little duckling to add just an extra bit of colour to the room. Aren't they just so cute! I'm so in love with them. Super easy to do as well as you could pay for these on Etsy and just download them. I then got them printed and have used some good old Ikea frames so all very reasonable too!
All of the furniture in here is Ikea. The two chests of drawers we already had, so just made an order for the cot which I think is so gorgeous! I added the little padded bumper round the top of the cot which I found on amazon. I just think it makes the cot look a little cosier!
A couple of items that I was SO excited to get where my rocking chair and footstall. Again... these were things I decided would be going in the nursery so long ago now. To finally order them and see them looking so lovely in the room feels amazing. The rocking chair is so comfortable and I cannot wait to sit here feeding the baby.
I am beyond happy with how the nursery has turned out and cannot wait to see it in use. I come and sit in here most days and just admire it (does that make me sound like a crazy lady?) I just love it so much!! We are all ready for a little person to arrive... I hope they love it as much as I do!
As we come in to September it certainly feels like we have said farewell to the summer... And I'm secretly quite excited to be wearing knitwear again!
This jumper is a new TOPSHOP purchase of mine and isn't maternity, although I did get it in tall for a little extra length to cover more bump. I thought this would be great post pregnancy as I'm already far to excited to treat myself to some new winter clothes for my bumbless self!
Paired with my trusty WHISTLES leather that gets a whole load of use and my little MANGO bag. A couple of staples that I can't be with out! Also... one item that is very definitely maternity are my jeans. These are the Joni jeans from TOPSHOP and are by far the best maternity jeans I've come across. So comfy and stretchy and actually stay up top (always handy!)
A fairly simple look for the summer/autumn transition... still in sandals so clearly not completely ready to say goodbye to the sunshine!
